As They Are Research and Development 2021

Joined by a new cast of dance artists and creatives, Jean Abreu continued the research and development of As They Are at House of Mass, London and MK Gallery in Milton Keynes.

The project also involved a dance workshop for local people in Milton Keynes and a live sharing of the work at Sky Room, MK Gallery.

As They Are (working title) is a new creation by Jean Abreu in collaboration with renowned Belgium dance dramaturg Guy Cools and a cast of outstanding female dance artists. Framing power and vulnerability in the body, choreographer Jean Abreu continues his research on the physical language of mourning and loss, focusing on the intense release and discharge of energy that occurs in the body through a process of letting go where vulnerability also equals strength. Meditative and serene yet intensely driven As They Are transforms moments of fragility into states of sheer dominance.

Continuing our collaboration with dance dramaturg Guy Cool, this R&D featured dance artists, Dorna Ashory, Finetta Oliver-Mikolajska, Kassichana Okene-Jameson and Tania Dimbelolo.
