Jean Abreu Dance is looking for a Freelance Technical Manager

(Newcastle / North East based preferred)

Jean Abreu Dance is developing its latest stage work, Deciphers. We are looking for a freelance technical manager to assist our creative team during the next research and development process.

Deciphers is a physical performance by Naishi Wang and Jean Abreu that brings together elements of Chinese folk dance, Brazilian dance styles, spoken word, breath, and ink on paper.

Role and Responsibilities

To assist the choreographers and creative team (Lighting Designer, Set Designer and Sound Designer) with the preparation, get-in and get-out at Dance City, Newcastle, including supporting implementing the lighting/ set design plans and the fit-up of the lighting when needed.

  • Responsible for hiring any lighting/ set / sound equipment where needed

  • Responsible for unpacking, organisation and placement of lighting

  • Run the lighting / sound on taking cues from the lighting designer and artistic director

  • To be responsible for packing of all hired lighting / set / technical properties at the end of the sharing

  • To assist the creative team with any other technical / stage duties that may arise

  • To work within health and safety policies of the company at all times

  • To maintain the detailed Lighting plan and show notes

  • To create a full technical rider for future touring

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Previous experience of working on small -mid-scale performance

  • Understanding of production elements, including costume and prop maintenance

  • Some experience of dance theatre desirable

Personal Attributes

  • Self-motivated and highly organised

  • Able to work as part of small production team, as well as work alone

  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Ability to establish a rapport with a wide range of individuals

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

The Technical Manager is responsible to the Lighting, Set and Sound Designers, Producer and Artistic Directors. The role may involve working in the evenings and at weekends.

FEE

£850 (including VAT and subject to negotiation)

Any travel outside of London will be paid by the company.
